Fishing on the river - pontoon nearby and along the river bank (permits available locally). Nature reserve at 500m. Cycling and rambling trails nearby (see Bike Hire Direct for pre-booking you cycle hire, with delivery). Wine tasting around the village of Vix. Green Venice - the well-known Vendee marshlands, to explore by punt or canoe, at numerous points from 4 miles / 6km onwards, eg. Maillezais. Fontenay-le-Comte (11 miles / 17km) colourful market (Saturday morning), historic town centre, chateau 'Terre Neuve'. La Faute sur Mer (huge market on Sundays in July and August).
Golf at Marsilly (25 miles / 40km). Town and port of La Rochelle (24 miles / 38km) - street cafes,
night life, boutiques, fabulous aquarium and numerous museums. Island of Re - via bridge from La Rochelle or by ferry from the port. Fouras peninsular - pretty town, sandy coves and the famous fishing huts on stilts...
