Restaurants: One within walking distance (only open mid-day and Friday and Saturday evenings), Lucon (3 miles) - good choice, simple through to gastronomic. Court d'Aron (6 miles). L'Aiguillon (13 miles) - sea food specialities. Beaches: 14 miles takes you to La Faute sur Mer, superb sandy beaches, stretching along 20km of coastline, with dunes & pine forests, including La Tranche sur Mer (water sports, windsurfing, jet-skis, sailing), round to the port of Jard sur Mer (Clemenceau museum). Places to visit: Colourful market at Lucon (Wednesdays & Saturdays) and at La Faute sur Mer (Sundays in July & August). Historic town and port of La Rochelle (40 miles) - street cafés, night life, boutiques, fabulous aquarium. Exotic gardens of Court d'Aron (6 miles) - lotus flower lakes. Chateau de la Guignardiere (14 miles) - children's treasure trail, picnic spots. Vinyards at Mareuil sur Lay (7 miles). Golf at Nesmy (20 miles) plus three others in the area.
