L'Aiguillon sur Mer (3 miles), large supermarket, bakery, bank, pharmacy, post office, etc.
St Michel en l'Herm (4 miles), bakery, small supermarket, newsagents, pharmacy, bank, post office. You can buy mussels and oysters direct from the producers at the port of L'Aiguillon and there is also an excellent shop for fresh fish.
Nearest restaurants:
One within cycling distance, one further along the point ( 2.5 miles), futher choice at L'Aiguillon sur Mer (3 miles) and a highly recommended restaurant at St Michel en l'Herm - La Rose Tremiere (4 miles).
Beaches:
Other than the nearest beaches along the point and the bathing lagoon at L'Aiguillon, 5 miles takes you to La Faute sur Mer, superb sandy beaches, stretching along 12 miles of coastline, with dunes and pine forests, including La Tranche sur Mer (water-sports, windsurfing, jet-skis, sailing), round to the port of Jard sur Mer and the cliffs and secluded bays of Le Point du Payre.
Holiday activities and places to visit:
Colourful Sunday morning market at La Faute sur Mer (5 miles) - summer season only.
Historic town and port of La Rochelle (47 miles or by boat from La Tranche sur Mer during the summer season), lovely town centre, lots to visit, fabulous aquarium.
Gardens of Le Court d'Aron (17 miles), exotic plants, lotus flower lakes. Chateau de la Guignardiere (25 miles), children's treasure trail, picnic spots. History theme park 'Le Puy du Fou' (53 miles). Island of Re (55 miles or by boat from La Tranche sur Mer during the summer season) - a magnificent day out, cycle hire available.
Activities: - Bird watching & cycling, around La Dive and the point. Sea fishing trips.
Water sports, go-karts, indoor fun pool at La Tranche sur Mer (11 miles). Indian Forest tree adventure park near Moutiers le Mauxfaits (18 miles).
