At Vix (3 miles, cycling distance along quiet lanes) bakery, grocery shop, butcher, newsagent, bar, post office, bank, pharmacy. Supermarket and further shops at Marans (9 miles) or Fontenay-le-Comte (11 miles). Road-side market stall (4 miles).

Nearest restaurants:
Simple bar/restaurant in Vix, or Maille (7 miles), Velluire (6 miles), Vouille-les-Marais (10 miles), Marans (9 miles). Fontenay le Comte (11 miles). Plus endless choice at La Rochelle (24 miles).

Beaches:
La Faute sur Mer (34 miles) and lots more thereon towards Les Sables d'Olonne.
Aytre / La Rochelle (24 miles) and on to Angoulins, Chatelaillon towards the south...

Holiday activities and places to visit:
Fishing on the doorstep (permits available locally). Nature reserve at 500m. Cycling and rambling trails nearby. Wine tasting around the village of Vix. Green Venice - the well-known Vendee marshlands, to explore by punt or canoe, at numerous points from 4 miles onwards, eg. Maillezais. Fontenay-le-Comte (11 miles) colourful market (Saturday morning), historic town centre, chateau 'Terre Neuve'. La Faute sur Mer (huge market on Sundays in July and August). Golf at Marsilly (25 miles). Town and port of La Rochelle (24 miles) - street cafes, night life, boutiques, fabulous aquarium and numerous museums. Island of Re - via bridge from La Rochelle or by ferry from the port. Fouras peninsular - pretty town, sandy coves and the famous fishing huts on stilts...
